(More customer reviews)Let me start by saying that I KNEW this soap had a very unique smell, described by other reviewers as being similar to a campfire.I thought that would be fine, since I love camping and campfires.Unfortunately, the soap I received smells nothing like a campfire; rather, it smells like a pile of burning tires.Or like burning garbage.(Having grown up in the country, I know what both of those things smell like.)

Anyway, despite the awful smell, I tried using this soap several times.Contrary to what is written on the packaging, it did not lather white; the lather was more of a brownish-yellow.Fortunately it didn't seem to leave any discoloration on my skin.But the main reason that I won't be using this soap again is because the smell stayed on my skin for a very long time... 8+ hours.I could have lived with the brown lather and the nasty smell IF the smell had not stayed on my skin... but there is no way I'm going to go out in public smelling like a trash fire.Not gonna happen!

I really, really wanted to like this soap.I've been searching for something that would help with acne and seb derm, and this soap seems to get a lot of good reviews from folks with those conditions.I'm wondering if the manufacturer changed the formula or something, because the soap I received is just nasty and is not like the soap described in the other reviews.

Anyway, give it a try, but be prepared to smell like ashes and cinders.

(More customer reviews)Dr. Bronner's is really fantastic stuff!I keep find more and more uses for it around the house.We've gotten to the point that we have replaced all of our toxic synthetic chemical products with this! The only thing I find it terrible for is washing windows, it leaves a film and you spend more time removing the film than the dirt!Otherwise, this stuff can easily replace 6-10 products around the home.

Be warned of this Peppermint, even though the peppermint is natural, it is extremely strong smelling.So strong, it can cause irritation for some people.I tried to use it on my floors, while it cleaned incredibly well, it nearly ran us out of the house the smell was so strong.This is even with me diluting it to a massive degree. I would recommend Peppermint for hand soap, dishes, laundry, anything outdoors.But would use something like Unscented, Lavender or Almond for general house cleaning, body soap and shampoo.

We also found this product is fantastic for cleaning our italian leather furniture!Normally we have to buy expensive solutions to effectively clean it while not damaging the leather.This stuff works perfect on it.If you use this in the bathroom for hand soap you don't need any air fresheners after you have a bowel movement. The peppermint quickly overtakes any other odors.We now use Bronner's for cleaning our jet tubs.Before they were very difficult to clean because you cannot use abrasive chemicals, but Dr. Bronner's practically melts the grim and dirt right off them!

Finally, I have dry skin.Up to this point I have been using Ivory Soap and it is horrible on my skin.A couple days of using Bronners and my skin is back to being normal!I love how this product rinses off so easily and leaves no films.

(More customer reviews)I have been using this soap for about 3 years now and I don't know what I'd do if they quit making it.I have acne prone sensitive skin and this soap is the only thing I've found that I can use that doesn't leave me with itchy, burning, irritated skin. It also has helped my acne.I'm in my 30's and have had acne ever since my teens. Prior to using this soap I would get huge painful pimples, now when I break out the pimples are smaller, less noticeable, fewer in number, less painful, and heal much quicker. Yes, the smell did take some getting used to but now I don't even notice it. It has a medicinal odor but the smell doesn't linger on your skin. It lathers nicely, rinses clean, and leaves no residue. I can use this soap year round and my skin does not dry out. On the contrary I use very little lotion or moisturizer these days. I woulddefinitely recommend giving this soap a try and they even sell it in little travel sizes, perfect for trying out a product without buying a full sized bar.

Hi there,

Thanks for writing and sharing your honest feedback.The soap is lighter
than it was before since now we use colorless but more effective vitamin E
(tocopherols) and not dark brown rosemary, and the viscosity is a little
different because of a higher olive oil content, but the soap is just as
concentrated as it was before at 39% solid.Absolutely no dilution has
occurred.You can determine this by pouring similar quantities of our older
conventional and newer organic liquid soaps into separate cups, and
observing that exactly the same amount of solid soap is left behind when the
water evaporates.

I know that the aroma of the soap is a little different, especially the
peppermint. Peppermint crops are the most susceptible to climate, similar to
how grapes can be distinguished by the environment in which they're grown.
When we switched to organic peppermint oil, we had to switch our source to
India rather than Washington state.The former aroma was more spicy and the
newer Indian peppermint oil has a mellower chocolatey smell.We still add
the same amount to our soaps.

All in all, the integrity of our soaps is higher than they have ever been.
We have now converted all of our oils to organic oils, which means that we
are supporting lots of sustainable farming and farm-worker health now.The
cost to us has been tremendous, but we felt the earth was definitely worth
it.Besides, this was an endeavor Dr. Bronner would definitely have
supported if he were alive today.

Margo Neem Soap 75g (Pack of 3) Review

(More customer reviews)I tried this "acne remedy" and was totally skeptical about it working. I only got it because it was cheap and worth a try. It took 2 days to clear up my moderate acne, and it also evened out my skin tone which was also nice. The only down side is that it smells awful.
My boyfriend tried using it to clear up his psoriasis because we found a few websites that said it worked for that, but it didn't really do anything. It just treats acne. But really, my skin hasn't even felt cleaner.

(More customer reviews)Like all LUSH shampoo bars, Squeaky Green has the advantages of being fairly easily transportable, not very messy, and eco-friendly.It's also just a nice general shampoo.Not too drying (those with really oily scalps/hair may want something a little tougher for regular use), decent lather, and a gentle clean.The scent is light and fresh and will linger if not covered by anything else but also, so far as I've noticed, is not over-powering nor does it tend to clash with any other scents which might be a problem with a few of the other shampoo bars.
The rosemary leaves included in the bar might be daunting for some as they come off in your hair, but the solution to that is to a) rinse thoroughly and/or b) pick them out before use.
Using the bar is simple - get your hair nice and wet, just like you would for liquid shampoo, then swipe the bar from the front of your scalp down the length of your hair in several spots, either side of the head and the middle seems the easiest pattern.Add a few more swipes if you feel it necessary.Then set down the bar in a well-drained, fairly try spot, and rub your fingers in your hair like you would with liquid shampoo to build up a nice rich lather.Rinse, follow with conditioner if you like (often not necessary) and go.

(More customer reviews)I've had bad dandruff for years. I mean, bad to the point where it's in my car, all over my home, my workdesk, my laptop. It's kind of disgusting, and looks pretty bad when I wore dark clothes. I could literally stand still, and shed. Yuck... Let's not even talk about the itch. All day, to the point where I had sore spots on my head.

I've tried pretty much everything. Dermarest, Nizoral, Selenium, and Zinc preparations - everything from over-the-counter varieties to items given to me by dermatologists, who were always "amazed that it didn't work."

Well, one day, I noticed a local grocery was closing out some generic low-percentage coal tar shampoos. Some of the 0.5% stuff, which I remember as being one of the older remedies that the folks had talked about. I decided to give it a try, since the bottles were going for a buck. Nothing really to lose. Well, within two weeks, I noticed a marked difference in the amount of dandruff I was shedding, and most of the itch and redness on my scalp had gone.

I investigated, found that it was near impossible to get the stronger stuff anymore due to some goofball's lawsuit, but that it was indeed still available, right here. The lawsuit was related to the stuff being considered a carcinogen in California. Yeah, kids, it's made from tar. Don't drink it.

After about a month and a half of using this stuff (about 7/8th of one bottle) I'm happy to say my dandruff is, as far as I am concerned, 100% gone. No more shedding, no more blowing crap out of my laptop, and no more cleaning the car every other day. I'm simply amazed. My scalp doesn't itch. I can wear dark shirts now. This stuff even cleared up some redness on my neck that I've had with the dandruff (and the doctors think was related.) I'm going to try and start cutting back on use, down to maybe every 3-5 days and see what happens. I don't think I can stop using it, but I can cut back.

So, in short, this stuff is amazing, is worth every penny, and will last you for probably 5-6 months if you use it sparingly. If you have severe dandruff, I highly recommend you read about how this stuff works, the minor side effects it can have, and get some. It works!

If you have very dry hair, get a good conditioner to pair with it.

Pros:
Highest coal-tar percentage from a retail product.
Don't need much per application.
Worked for me within a few weeks.

Cons:
Can smell like creosote.
Makes gray hair darker.
May increase your sensitivity to sunlight.

(More customer reviews)If you're looking for true coal tar, SoapWorks is a waste of money. True coal tar products contains PAH's (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). None in this soap. Instead it contains plenty artificial black pigment like a carbon agent. Stains everything but it washes out. This soap is simply a small, artificially black, coconut oil based castille soap. It lathers well and works well in that regard but do not expect medicinal skin care like a true coal tar soap delivers. Try Polytar or a similar product instead.
