(More customer reviews)I LOVE this product!I am a 32 year-old mom with terrible psoriasis.I'm also breastfeeding my 9 month old daughter, which means that every steroidal product I used in the past to control the condition is no longer available to me.Around the time I became pregnant, the condition really flared up and so I have spent a crazy amount of money on lotions and potions that do not contain steroids in hopes that something (anything) will alleviate the maddening dryness, itching and bleeding...until I ordered this product on a whim... I figured with only .25 ounces, if it didn't work, I wouldn't be tossing too much of my money into the garbage.My psoriasis is present on my left elbow, both ears, and over one entire side of my scalp.Fortunately, I have long hair and so most people don't realize I suffer from it.Since I got pregnant, I rarely go out as I now shower at night (easier with a baby) and a few hours prior to showering, I would have to cover my scalp with an oil based lotion.Prior to showering, I would go through the "ick" process of scraping the scales off so that my skin would feel like it could actually breathe.Not a pretty picture and certainly, no state in which to go out and about the town. Anyway, back to this product.I didn't have much hope for it so I started out with just putting a little on the patch on my elbow and forgetting about it.2 days later, I thought to look at my elbow since I forgot to check the day before.Much to my disbelief, the psoriasis was gone.Seriously.So that day, I put some on my ears, excited to see the result.The next day, the usual white scaling was not present.Hmmm...on to my head.As with all lotions/salves, it was a pain to have to part my hair repeatedly to apply the salve but I noticed within 24 hours that the scaling was 1/4 of what it usually was...so I kept it up for a week and the psoriasis, though still present, no longer has a grip on me the way it did.In fact, some days it barely bothers me and I get lazy about applying this product.It does flare up a bit more when I forget, but nothing like it used to.I can once again, go out at night and the best thing is, this salve (for those that need it on their head) doesn't make my hair so greasy that I can't go out even after I've applied it. It seems to work best on my elbow...I can go almost a week before reapplying.Ideally, I need to apply it to my ears every few days and my scalp daily. It hasn't cured my psoriasis (yet, anyway) but for those of you who are breastfeeding or pregnant and have few options, this one is a winner!

(More customer reviews)Let me start by saying that I KNEW this soap had a very unique smell, described by other reviewers as being similar to a campfire.I thought that would be fine, since I love camping and campfires.Unfortunately, the soap I received smells nothing like a campfire; rather, it smells like a pile of burning tires.Or like burning garbage.(Having grown up in the country, I know what both of those things smell like.)

Anyway, despite the awful smell, I tried using this soap several times.Contrary to what is written on the packaging, it did not lather white; the lather was more of a brownish-yellow.Fortunately it didn't seem to leave any discoloration on my skin.But the main reason that I won't be using this soap again is because the smell stayed on my skin for a very long time... 8+ hours.I could have lived with the brown lather and the nasty smell IF the smell had not stayed on my skin... but there is no way I'm going to go out in public smelling like a trash fire.Not gonna happen!

I really, really wanted to like this soap.I've been searching for something that would help with acne and seb derm, and this soap seems to get a lot of good reviews from folks with those conditions.I'm wondering if the manufacturer changed the formula or something, because the soap I received is just nasty and is not like the soap described in the other reviews.

Anyway, give it a try, but be prepared to smell like ashes and cinders.

For folks that need more oil on the skin, this is a wonderful body wash, I'm getting over a bad outbreak of psoriasis, and need to keep my skin moisturized.

I make my own soap (yes I'm a soapmaker) - and can be critical of store bought stuff.I'm still using this so I can feel more moisturized when leaving the bath.Now that says a lot coming from someone who makes their own soap.

I'm very happy with it.

Packers Pine Tar Shampoo for Hair and scalp - 8 Oz Review

(More customer reviews)As long as I have had hair on the top of my head -- and, in my seventh decade, I still have a full head of hair -- I have had dandruff.It is a mild form of dandruff, not the "snowstorm" variety, but it has persisted over decades.The purchase of a bottle of shampoo that promises to remedy the situation is not a major investment, and so, over the years, I have tried just about all of the dandruff shampoos put on the market.

Most dandruff shampoos (Head & Shoulders being the prominent market leader) are built around pyrithione zinc (sometimes listed as zinc pyrithione) as the active ingredient.Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database, classifying it as a class 5 "moderate hazard," is hardly enthusiastic about pyrithione zinc, and several developed nations have limited its use in consumer products.Aside from its safety, however, it simply never has worked on my particular form of dandruff.Its effectiveness has been zero or so near to zero as to appear to be zero.

Another group of dandruff shampoos -- Neutrogena T-Sal is an example -- is built around salicylic acid as the active ingredient.Although salicylic acid is a close relative of aspirin, Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database rates it as a class 7 "high hazard" ingredient.Hazard or not, salicylic acid shampoos have never been effective on my scalp to reduce my dandruff.

In most states -- sale is restricted or forbidden in some states -- some shampoos are available in which the active ingredient is coal tar.Coal tar is a known carcinogen.Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Databese ranks coal tar as a class 10 (TEN!) "high hazard."Unaware of the dangers at the time, I tried coal tar-based dandruff shampoos in the past, and they seemed to be moderately effective on my dandruff.Better informed now of its carcinogenic properties, I would be uncomfortable with my family using any coal tar shampoo regularly over the long term.

Another "tar" product used in dandruff shampoos is pine tar oil (pinus paulustris).Of all the dandruff control products that I ever have tried, the ones that worked the best all were "pine tar" shampoos.I have tried a few brands, among which Heritage Products' Tannenbaum Pine Tar Shampoo has worked remarkably well for me over the years; effective in solving the dandruff problem. http://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Products-Pine-Shampoo-8-Ounces/dp/B001E768PE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1284984339&sr=1-2And Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database rates pinus paulustris as a class 1 "low hazard," just a bit riskier than distilled water.

So:why did I purchase a bottle of Packer's Pine Tar Shampoo -- the subject of this review -- to try out?Why not stick with Tannenbaum?While the active ingredient of pine tar shampoos is, indeed pine tar, most of them, including Tannenbaum, contain SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) or SLES (sodium laureth sulfate) or both as the main cleaning ingredient(s).SLS is a very, very common cleanser; you can find it in many household detergents, and its lack of toxicity is fairly well confirmed (EWG ranks it as a class 3 "moderate hazard").Read the ingredient list of best-selling major shampoos, and you will find either SLS or SLES, or both, on most of the labels.In the case of Tannenbaum Pine Tar Shampoo, the concentration of SLES and SLS appear to be fairly high.Tannenbaum cleans really well, and quite aggressively.My hair and scalp feel squeaky clean after shampooing with Tannenbaum.

But in my use, Tannenbaum seemed to be TOO aggressive a cleanser for frequent use.If I use Dr. Tannenbaum more than once within a period of a week or ten days, my hair gets pretty dry and brittle.Even a good conditioner seems overmatched to the task of rehydrating my hair then.

Enter Packers Pine Tar Shampoo.Claiming to be the original pine tar shampoo, Packers is not based on SLS or SLES.It promises the benefit of pine tar dandruff reduction without the overly aggressive cleaning and (at least for me) drying effects of SLES and SLS.

Strictly as a shampoo, Packers is very satisfactory.It cleans my hair and scalp as well as the best selling prooducts from Procter & Gamble or Alberto Culver or Schwarzkopf.As a dandruff shampoo, however, it is only moderately more effective -- though probably safer and more environmentally friendly -- than pyrithione zinc or salicylic acid based dandruff shampoos; it is not as effective on my dandruff as any of the SLS-based pine tar shampoos that I have tried.Overall, that's not a bad score.I can recommend Packers without crossing my fingers behind my back.

Personally, however, I expect that I will go back to my pre-Packers regimen of using Jason Natural Biotin Shampoo (excellent product) for daily or every other day shampooing, supplemented every ten days or so by shampooing with one of the SLS/SLES-based pine tar shampoos (probably Tannenbaum).The two shampoo bottles take up more space in the shower than one does, but that is the only means I have found to get the best of both worlds.

Pagano in his book Healing Psoriasis -The Natural Alternative.Using it, along with Saffron Tea as outlined in his book [which includes avoiding pizza, alcoholic drinks, carbonated drinks, eggplant, deep fried foods, non low-fat dairy products, paprika, peppers, red meats, tomatoes, white potatoes and not mixing grains & citrus ] seems to make a big difference for me.I'm not free from psoriasis altogether, however, my hands used to have as many as ten lesions at one time for the past forty years but now I cope with an occassional one or two and that seems to be when I waver on the diet restrictions noted above.

(More customer reviews)I have been using this soap for about 3 years now and I don't know what I'd do if they quit making it.I have acne prone sensitive skin and this soap is the only thing I've found that I can use that doesn't leave me with itchy, burning, irritated skin. It also has helped my acne.I'm in my 30's and have had acne ever since my teens. Prior to using this soap I would get huge painful pimples, now when I break out the pimples are smaller, less noticeable, fewer in number, less painful, and heal much quicker. Yes, the smell did take some getting used to but now I don't even notice it. It has a medicinal odor but the smell doesn't linger on your skin. It lathers nicely, rinses clean, and leaves no residue. I can use this soap year round and my skin does not dry out. On the contrary I use very little lotion or moisturizer these days. I woulddefinitely recommend giving this soap a try and they even sell it in little travel sizes, perfect for trying out a product without buying a full sized bar.

Miracle of Aloe Miracle Rash Repair Cream - 4 fl oz Review

(More customer reviews)Thinking I had nothing to lose since I go through creams on a daily basis with my eczema on my legs, back, arms and feet, I paid the $9.99 for the Miracle of Aloe Miracle Rash Repair Cream.

This is 36% aloe which is to promote healing of skin damaged by psoriasis, dermatitis and itchy, red, scaly, dry skin. I think since it did not specifically mention eczema I should have been forewarned, but dermatitis is in the same family of skin conditions.

I like that it is a large thick tube with a flip-top lid that can be applied to areas 3-4 times daily. The box mentioned dead sea salts, but not being familiar with this it made no difference in my purchasing decision. The fact that it contains no lanolin was to my benefit.

The photos on the box show before an after with red marks on a leg and then it is clear. Since I have several products I use concurrently on my eczema I chose to focus on my legs and feet with the Miracle of Aloe Miracle Rash Repair Cream.

Since I am sticking to wearing socks and sneakers this summer season I opted for applying the cream on my feet before putting on socks. This did help a great deal with no itching throughout the days I was out and about in my sneakers and also while working out at 24 Hour Fitness.

This is another one of those products that I must avoid from placing into the palm of my hand. This stung my open sores where skin is resurfacing so bad that I had to quickly get it off the area. I try to remember to always place the cream on my feet and legs and use my fingertips to rub into the skin.

The cream is white, smooth but not overly creamy, more oily, but absorbs into the skin very fast. This does not leave a sticky feeling on the skin, nor does it cause me to apply more to scratch off. There is a light scent that is pleasant. Once you get half way through the tube it is hard to grasp and push out the contents without effort. When you have cuts and sores on your hands it is like living with arthritis making opening and squirting impossible.

I doubt I will pay another $9.99 for this Miracle of Aloe Miracle Rash Repair Cream. Then again a small tube of all the other over the counter products cost about $5-6 and are much smaller in size. I wish these items were available in tall slender tubes with a push down dispenser allowing us to get all the contents out with ease and less irritation.

(More customer reviews)I've tried all sorts of shampoos and conditioners for relief for the psoriasis on my scalp--both OTC and prescription, but nothing has made a significant difference, until my new dermatologist recommended this.I've been using it over 2 months (with a conditioner by Aubrey Organics which leaves my hair soft and healthy) and have noticed significant reduction in itching and psoriasis spots on my scalp.There's almost no itching and I haven't noticed flakes or psoriasis spots(there used to be A LOT of both).I've been using the Aubrey organics shampoos and conditioners (GPB & Island Naturals varieties) for close to 2 years and did not notice an improvement with the psoriasis, but when I switched out the shampoo for the DHS Zinc, I was pleasantly surprised.Also, it smells nice and there's nothing unpleasant about it.I'm very happy with this product!

(More customer reviews)I am a nurse in a cancer center, and one of my colleagues brought in a jar of this that she had received free at an oncology conference.I tried it and was very impressed.My hands get quite dry, red and cracked from frequent handwashing and cold weather, and have been much smoother since using this cream every morning and evening.I also put it on my 3-year-old son's cheeks, which tend to get chapped in the cold, and his skin condition has also been greatly improved.It has been a very effective product for our sensitive skin.

(More customer reviews)I've used a lot of conditioners over the years.Some supposedly very good quality stuff (Paul Mitchell, Back to Basics, Biolage, Redken), and none of those can compare to Nature's Gate Rainwater Tea Tree Oil Conditioner.I LOVE this conditioner.
I've been using it on and off for years.The "off" times have been either because I was too lazy to go out and buy more (up until now, I've gone to the area health store) or it was because my mom gave me a gallon jug of Paul Mitchell conditioner as a gift.Right now is one of those off times for me, mostly due to laziness.I'm so glad I found this product on Amazon.
To preface this, let me say that I do not use hair spray, gels, mousse, etc.The only thing I put on my hair is my 100% natural shampoo and a conditioner.I have long hair - about mid-back length - and I've noticed that after a few months of using some other brand of conditioner, my hair just goes to pot.Lots of split ends relatively quickly.But, when I use this Nature's Gate product, my hair stays "whole" a lot longer.It takes much longer before I start seeing split ends.
My hair is also softer when using this product.To lessen the amount of my hair that goes down the drain, I tip my head upside-down and comb my fingers through it with the conditioner in to remove as many loose hairs as I can.When I'm using this conditioner, my fingers run through it with almost no difficulty.They rarely encounter snarls.And I don't brush my hair before I wash it.My fingers regularly encounter snarls with the other brands I've used.
I highly recommend this conditioner.I love this stuff so much that I will use it until they don't make it any more.There's no reason for me to try anything else.I've already found the perfect conditioner in this Nature's Gate product.
